How much does it cost to add my location to the map?

The cost to add your location is $39. This is an all-inclusive price for one year of service.

How long will it appear on the site?

Your location will be active on the site for one calendar year from the date it is officially added. You will receive notification of the date once it is added.

How do I add a second or third location to the map?

To add multiple locations, you will need to complete the process individually for each location. Each one is handled individually, and you will receive notifications for each location you add. If they are added on different dates, each one will expire in relation to its corresponding date of being added.

What if I don’t have digital photographs of my location?

You will need to obtain digital images as they are required to Add Your Location. If this presents a problem, Southern Tier West will visit your location and photograph it for an additional fee. Please contact customer service via e-mail for more information at: service@Southerntierwest.org.

Will my location be edited before it is placed on the site?

All locations are reviewed before they become part of the live site. Pornographic or vulgar images are restricted and will not be added to the site. If any pictures or titles contain images or phrases that are deemed inappropriate for the site, the location will not be added. The Webmaster reserves the right to edit any submission. If a submission is beyond editing, the location will not be added and the submission fee will be surrendered by the submitting business or individual.

When will my location appear on the site?

Your location will appear once it has been reviewed for content. This will usually occur within one week. A confirmation e-mail will be sent to you once it is approved and is live on-line.

What is the process for renewing when my location is about to expire?

Prior to the expiration of your location, you will receive e-mail notification as a reminder to renew. That e-mail will explain the entire renewal process. If you let your location expire and then wish to add it again, you will need to do so as if it is a new location entirely. Once a location expires, it is purged from the database.

Is the online credit card payment system secure?

The payment process is handled by VeriSign for the Add Your Location. VeriSign is a leader in on-line payment systems and hosts the payment process as a third party vendor. The information is sent through a secure connection and is handled with the highest level of security. An InfoLink is patented technology developed by the PixEarth Corporation. It allows the user to click on an icon that appears on a picture and open a corresponding website. You will be able to link your website to each of the photos you include.

The DiscoverSouthwestNY.com website averages 21,000 hits each weekday. These hits are generated from about 550 visitors, each spending an average of 11 minutes on the site. As the official tourism website of the Chautauqua-Allegheny region, the site is featured on all I Love NY advertising. This generates traffic from around the country. Tthe site eclipsed the 5 million hit mark by the end of its first year being online..

Who is Southern Tier West and how long have they been around?

Southern Tier West Regional Planning and Development Board is the organization that created, maintains, and hosts the DiscoverSouthwestNY.com website. Southern Tier West was organized in 1969 by the three county legislatures of Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua counties. The organization serves those counties to promote economic and social development. There are many ways in which this is done, only one of which is this website. Can I add my location if I am outside of the SouthwestNY region?

DiscoverSouthwestNY.com is specific to the three county region we serve. However, we recognize that businesses, travelers, and the general public don’t often consider political boundaries. Therefore, we encourage businesses outside of the region to consider adding themselves to the site. It really comes down to what makes sense for you and/or your business. Locations that are very near the border will certainly benefit from being included, ones that are farther away, especially areas not shown on the map, are not likely to see any benefit.

What are the minimum system requirements for this process

To add your location, the computer you use must be outfitted with the newest version of the Java Virtual Machine and the Java Runtime Environment. Most newer computers will have these installed already by default. They are necessary since this process utilizes a Java Applet to transfer the information from your computer to our server and upload it into the database. Both the JVM and JRE are available as free downloads and are packaged together into one download. You can begin the Add Your Location process and it will automatically detect if they are available on your computer. If they are not, a window will open prompting you to download the necessary components. Follow the on-screen process and it will be downloaded and installed automatically for you. For more information on the JVM and JRE, please visit the Java website. Because the downloads are several MB in size, it is also recommended that the computer have a high-speed Internet connection. This is not necessary though.

What format, size and quality should my images be?

Your images should be JPEG’s (.jpg) format. The size and quality is less important. Your images will be resized and sampled to fit into the website parameters. However, low quality images will look grainy and are less desirable. Remember that these pictures will be representing your business, so you should make them as good as possible.

Is my location restricted to businesses or can I add or "sponsor" a location such as a park, monument, bridge, etc.?

You are free to add any location you would like to see on the website. Other locations besides businesses are encouraged, especially civic locations that portray your community in a positive light.

Can I edit my location once it has been officially added?

There is no capability for you to edit your location until it is renewed at the end of the year. If editing is necessary, such as your business has moved, please contact Southern Tier West via e-mail at service@Southerntierwest.org. A customer service representative will manually edit your location as needed free of charge.

What if I would like a more detailed tour of my business than the Add Your Location can offer.

Customized tours are available to show your business in great detail. Costs of these tours are related to the level of detail included. Please contact Southern Tier West via e-mail for more information on a customized tour at service@Southerntierwest.org.

How many photos can be included in my location?

You can add up to five photos for each location. You must have at least one photo.

Who else will have access to my account information?

Your account information will be kept strictly confidential. It will not be sold or shared with any other organization.

Can I show other things besides photographs for my location like my logo, or pictures of my products, or a digital image of a document?

Any of these can be added in place of a traditional digital photograph. Add them as you would a standard photograph in the interface. Please note however, that these will also be subject to resizing and sampling. Therefore they may become distorted or illegible. If you are interested in adding one of these, we highly encourage you to resize it yourself and provide it to us as the highest quality possible.

How will I be updated about the site and its accomplishments?

When you become an Add Your Location subscriber, you will begin to receive a monthly newsletter via e-mail. This newsletter will include updated statistics on site traffic, testimonials, subscriber statistics, etc. This will give you a good idea on how your location is being seen and the marketing efforts surrounding the site itself.
