New York State Discover Southwest NY SWNY

proximity

Southwest NY is one of the most centrally located regions in the country. Situated about half way between Chicago and New York City, the region has some amazing statistics to exemplify its strategic location. While the area itself is primarily rural in nature, it is nestled amongst some of the most dynamic economies in the world. The metropolitan New York area is within a day’s drive. The Canadian “Golden Horseshoe” of Toronto to Hamilton is a two-hour drive. Every major industrialized city in the Northeast United States is within easy reach.

When we talk about Southwest NY we are concentrating on a region located about an hour south of Buffalo, an hour and a half from the Canada-US border, and three hours from Toronto, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Within a one day drive lies a population of over 111 million people. That is over 1/3 of the combined population of the United States and Canada. An exhaustive road network, national and local airports, and rail availability simplify linking to the cities of the Northeast. Interstate highways connect all major cities with the region, which features Interstates 90 and 86, as well as several State and US highways. The following bullet list shows what is located within a one day or less driving radius from the center of Southwest NY:

Having a strategic location as well as the infrastructure to access it is a tremendous competitive advantage. Many times a major cost in manufacturing is shipping. Not only shipping out finished product, but also shipping in raw materials or supplied components. By locating in a strategic area, these costs can often be reduced greatly. Southwest NY offers this competitive advantage. Its geographic location in combination with interstate highways, railroads, and even navigable waterways, allows easy transportation to large populations efficiently.
