Business opportunities lie around every corner in Southwest NY. These opportunities come in many forms from specific sites and industrial parks to new infrastructure.
One of the more recent opportunities to become available is the designation of Interstate 86 and the subsequent upgrade of NYS 17 to Interstate standards. I-86 was included in the Interstate system less than five years ago. Today, the western terminus of I-86 is at is junction with I-90 in Northeast, PA. The current eastern terminus is at the junction of I-390 near Corning, NY. Work continues on the eastern portion of the road to meet interstate standards. Eventually the entire corridor from Northeast, PA all the way to Jersey City, NJ will be up to Interstate standards.
With the designation as an Interstate came growth along the corridor. This growth has just begun, but indications are that it will strengthen and continue into the future.
Outside of the I-86 corridor, other opportunities await as well. Construction has begun on the freeway extension of US 219 through the region. This highway has been dubbed Continental-1 with the eventual completion of the corridor from Toronto, Ontario to Miami, FL. The existing highway is being upgraded to four lane limited access through the region. It is currently four lane from Buffalo to Springville. Near future plans are to connect to I-86 with the four lane 219.
