There are two types of taxes that individuals are responsible for in NYS. The first is property tax. This tax is based upon your assessed valuation for all property (land and improvements) that you own. These are local taxes that support the county, town and or village, and the school district where the property is located. Tax rates vary widely since each parcel is subject to property taxes from at least three entities. To find specific tax rate information for a location, use the Get Info tool below on the map. Clicking on the desired location will open a .pdf document with a link to the tax rate information, as well as the name of the county, town, village, and school district.
The second type of tax that individuals are responsible for is NYS income taxes. NYS taxes are quite similar to federal income taxes. There are some variations and differences between the two. For complete information on NYS income taxes, please visit the NYS Taxation and Finance web site.
