As an agricultural community, Southwest NY naturally is home to many horse owners. That alone does not make an area an equestrian center. However, an extensive trail system, training centers, shows, and clubs do make Southwest NY a great place to be involved in all sorts of equestrian activities.
From horse pulls to Western shows to trail rides through Allegany State Park, Southwest NY regularly has events and activities for horse enthusiasts.
Horses are a way of life in Southwest NY. Not only for recreation, but also for work. They are still used today by many, especially the Amish community, for farm work, logging, and transportation. And an even greater number of people enjoy them as companions for riding, sleigh rides, and showing.
