What do the NYS records for Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, Pink Salmon, Lake Trout, and Walleye all have in common? They were all caught in the waters of Southwest NY. Add to that the fact that Chautauqua Lake is known as the Muskie Capital of the World, and you have a hot spot for freshwater fishing.
Gamefish of all major species can be found in the lakes, rivers, streams, and ponds of SouthwestNY. Public fishing access is abound, as are public boat launches on all major navigable waterways.
The methods for catching the fish are almost as varied as the species themselves. Whether you prefer casting flies, jigging, trolling, wading, or downrigging, you can find a place to test your skills in SouthwestNY.
We invite you come and give our fish a try. Bring your family and relax as you overlook the setting sun on the Lake Erie horizon from atop your boat. Or, if it suits you best, grab your fly rod and wade into a pool that only you and the trout have discovered at the crack of dawn.
For all Walleye fanatics, this one is for you. It is estimated that half of the North American Walleye population is found in Lake Erie, and Chautauqua Lake is consistently mentioned as one of the best in the country for yellows. And that NYS record Walleye we mentioned above, that one was caught in the Kinzua Reservoir. For everything you need to know about fishing in SouthwestNY, visit the following links.
