Immediately within the region there is are two professional sports teams and two collegiate level teams. Three are baseball teams that play summer league games, and the fourth is part of the North East Hockey League.
The Jamestown Jammers are a Single A team affiliated with the Florida Marlins organization. Playing their games at Russell E. Diethrick Park, the Jammers are the hit of Jamestown in the summer time. The Wellsville Nitros also call this area home. The Nitros are part of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. The team plays a 42 game schedule in June and July. It is sanctioned by the NCAA and partially funded by Major League Baseball.
Also in the NYCBL are the Alfred Athletes in Action. They play the same schedule as the Nitros, with home games located at Alfred State College. The Jamestown Titans are the newest professional sports team to call Southwest NY home. The Titans are part of the North East Hockey League. This league began play in the 2003-04 season.
